On February 24, 2024, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, the Woman MP for Lira City, commissioned the handover of textbooks for the new curriculum to 27 secondary schools in Lira City. Every year, the Ministry of Education and Sports provides textbooks for all secondary schools in Uganda. However, last year, none of the schools in Lira City received these books.
Determined to change this, Dr. Aceng worked closely with the Resident City Commissioner, Egole Lawrence, to mobilize headteachers. She encouraged them to write to the Commissioner of Instructional Materials through her, ensuring their schools received the needed books. Recognizing the urgent need, she personally took steps to collect and distribute the books to the schools.
Dr. Aceng is committed to improving education and performance in Lira City and the entire Lango sub-region. She urges headteachers to remain active in requesting textbooks to prevent shortages. She also pledged to continue transporting books whenever they arrive, ensuring they reach the schools on time.
Her dedication highlights her strong commitment to the development of education in Lira City.
