The Ministry of Health has announced that Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero, Uganda’s Minister of Health, has been named African Public Health Champion of the Year.
“Congratulations to our very own, Jane Ruth Aceng, for being voted as the African Public Health Champion of the Year,” the Ministry shared on X (formerly Twitter).
This special award recognizes her great work in improving public health in Africa. It is given to people who help prevent diseases, improve healthcare, and save lives.
The award is organized by Africa CDC and the Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh (DRASA) Health Trust. Dr. Aceng will officially receive it next year in Casablanca, Morocco.
This achievement highlights Uganda’s success in public health, especially in handling crises like Covid-19. Dr. Aceng, who has been Minister of Health since 2016, led key health improvements and helped Uganda gain global praise for its Covid-19 response.
The Casablanca ceremony will bring together top health leaders from Africa, making this a proud moment for Uganda and Lira City.
